There is no difficult child. Just a misunderstood one.

Kel is passionately committed to seeing through each case, and feels helping your baby get enough sleep is as important to her as it is to you. Kel will conduct a full individual assessment of your baby's sleeping, eating and awake habits, in your own home. In colloaboration with you, she provides tailored appropriate, practical recommendations after evaluating your situation. She aims to share her knowledge with you to help you understand why sleep problems can occur, and pinpoint what may be occuring for your bub. Together, we will see the light at the end of the tunnel, usually within two to three weeks.  Reports provided on request for your doctor.

Sleep counselling & Behaviour change Packages with Kel

From $150

Bio psychosocial assessment of current situation and attachment history. Unload your worries and concerns as we unravel together the mystery of child sleep. Kel's warmth combined with a no-judgement no-nonsense approach is highly sought as she makes sense of the why (psychological sleep science, child cognitive development) and the how (behavioural methods, attachment theory, circadian rythym alignment etc), in a down-to-earth 'mum speak' for tired parents. Followed with tailoring steps forward, and ongoing support - Kel will not give you a full plan straight up and say goodbye goodluck, as she understands babies are not robots - instead her unique and effective approach means she will be your guide as you travel down the path together, responding to how your child (and yourself) responds to our adjustments. Kel is a natural human behaviour observer and trained in making sense of nonverbal body communications and will utilize this skillset whilst observing parent-child interactions in your home environment.

Kel Whittaker, MSW(Q), BPsySc founded the Institute of Sensitive Sleep Consulting after identifying a need in the child sleep industry to support and educate professionals who identify themselves as respectful of attachment parenting values, positive parenting principles and other parenting styles that nurture the parent-child bond, whilst guiding clients to respectful solutions to their sleep issues. Kel is also the owner of a perinatal and family counselling practice, Erinnah.

Kel works one on one with clients on the Gold Coast / Brisbane, and leads a team of sensitive sleep consultants across Australia, New Zealand & New York. Kel feels her understanding gained through her Bachelor of Psychological Science (including attachment theory and cognitive development) have been fundamental in adapting her approach. She holds a Masters in Social Work and a certificate in Insomnia Diagnosis and Treatment and certificate in Infant Mental Health Foundations (University of Auckland) and is trained in crisis counselling (Lifeline Australia), a Certified Child Sleep Consultant and Happiest Baby Educator.  She is currently completing a Master of Social Work, to broaden her focus on understanding the child's perceptions and adapting family behavioural interventions to be more considerate of the child's cognitive and emotional abilities. Kel works with families under pressure and at risk of mental health issues. Kel is the Australian Representative for the International Association of Child Sleep Consultants. She is also a Professional Associate of Attachment Parenting International, and is a member of the Association of Professional Sleep Consultants, a published contributor to the International Maternity & Parenting Institute and a featured Wisdom Expert for the Birth Institute. Kel is proud to share her thoughtful program approved with International Institute for Complementary Therapists. She also has a background as a Childrens Ministry Leader (ages 1-4 years). Prior to her relocation to the Gold Coast, she was recommended by Pediatricians at Royal Darwin Hospital and invited to present to their board. Throughout her experiences with assisting parents, she has shaped her practice of assessing and coaching parents with sleep issues to one that ultimately listens to the client and guides and counsels them to find their own solutions from a place of love and understanding. Kel does not claim to be an 'Expert' - the world does not need more Experts, it needs Encouragers.

Please note, this service is not a typical 'consultant' with a set 'program' for a robot baby. The style of this service is mixed with counselling and tailoring strategies based on your parenting strengths and child's temperaments, with the guidance of a family counsellor trained in insomnia treatment and behavioural therapy.

Success! Message received.

"I cannot express how grateful I am to you for your help with my daughter. You were so warm and kind, and very easy to talk to about all of the issues I had been having with her sleep. She slept through the first night, and 3 weeks later she is going to bed happy, putting herself to sleep by cuddling and talking to her teddy bear, and she sleeps a solid 12 hours. Her eating has improved during the day as well. Thanks again for your help."
